They say you can't put a price on good health. Even so, at $3,400, the California Health and Longevity Institute's Deluxe Physical might seem a bit over the top. But this is no ordinary doctor's visit. Run from a Four Seasons hotel near Los Angeles, the Institute combines the comprehensive medical review of an executive-health session at Mayo Clinic including screening for cancer and heart-attack risk with the shameless luxury of a spa treatment. You can have blood samples drawn in your hotel room; you can take a eucalyptus steam; and you can add to your check-up package with other discretionary medical services, such as tests of how well you breathe while asleep.
But the real perk is convenience. No time to schedule all of your regular doctor visits? No problem. The Deluxe Physical can be completed in a single day, so there's no wait between your eye test and your electrocardiogram. Lab work is done onsite, and results are available later the same day ideal if you need counseling about them afterward. And while your lab tests are processed, you can work out a new exercise program with a personal trainer or develop a diet plan with a nutritionist. Or get your teeth checked and any necessary fillings put in. "Do you know how many people don't have time to go to the dentist?" says Andrew Conrad, founder of the Institute. "We try to make it so freaking convenient that you can't say you don't have time."
The hope, of course, is that even short visits could have lasting results. If they do, that health investment could pay precious dividends. www.chli.com
